San Diego County Crime Stoppers is now offering a new app for i-Phones and i-Pads that allows the public to submit crime tips anonymously. The app is available free through the iPhone App Store (under TipSubmit).
The features of this new mobile app offer the ability to submit images and video, anonymous two-way dialogue, and a virtual chat mode when both parties are online. The app was created by TipSoft, a technology company that San Diego County Crime Stoppers has been partnering with for more than 7 years. TipSoft shares Crime Stoppers’ commitment to ensuring anonymity to our tipsters. A Droid app is in development.
Crime Stoppers has been offering anonymous web and text tips for nearly three years. Text and web tips currently account for about 30% of Crime Stoppers tips. Text and web tips have helped local law enforcement apprehend drug dealers, fugitives, and safely remove weapons from local school campuses.
According to Crime Stoppers’ Executive Director, “The Crime Stoppers App provides a new way for the public to anonymously report crime in their communities without fear of retaliation. This App will allow us to reach out to San Diegans in a new and exciting way.”
Media inquiries should be directed to: Sally Cox, Executive Director, at (858) 603-9810.
Crime Stoppers is a nonprofit organization that partners with law enforcement to solve crime. Tips to our anonymous tip lines have helped to solve more than 4,000 felony crimes including 110 homicides. Through our Students Speaking Out partnership, 13 guns have been removed from local school campuses. We offer rewards of up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest.
