San Diego County Crime Stoppers, working with the San Diego Police Department’s Homicide Unit, continues to seek information in the unsolved murder of Richard Carrillo.

On March 24, 2012, at 8:07 p.m., officers were dispatched to a report of a shooting in the south alley of 3500 Island Avenue. Officers found 14-year-old Richard Carrillo suffering from a gunshot wound. Paramedics arrived to treat him but he died at the scene.

The preliminary investigation revealed the victim was sitting on the tailgate of a parked pick-up truck, talking with friends, when a dark colored SUV drove toward them and stopped. Two Hispanic males got out of the SUV and began shooting toward Carrillo and his friends. Carrillo tried to flee on foot, but was struck by the gunfire. The two suspects described as being in their 20’s, got back into the SUV and drove westbound from the scene.
